Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb responds to NFL fining him more for uniform

FRISCO, Texas — Count CeeDee Lamb among those surprised.“Very surprised, actually,” he said Wednesday afternoon. “Very surprised.”The Cowboys receiver hasn’t been fined just once or twice or even three times this season. No, make that five total times this season that the league has billed Lamb for uniform violations, an alleged taunting incident and an illegal block. Lamb’s fines have piled. Two $5,150 knocks for an untucked jersey? Another $5,150 for Lamb’s socks being too low? Lamb’s end zone wave after scoring the winning touchdown in overtime at New England Oct. 17 cost him $10,300, per multiple reports including ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Meanwhile, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was fined $14,650 for repeatedly violating the league’s policies on COVID-19 protocols. Lamb was asked Wednesday whether that discrepancy annoyed him.“Annoy me? Nah,” Lamb said. “Confuse me a lot? Very much so yes. I just don’t understand why I’m always the one getting fined for some reason. Untucked jersey. Socks too low.“I don’t know, bro. I don’t know.”Lamb has intensified his efforts to discuss his uniform with officials before games to more closely dial into his adherence to uniform protocol, even as he’d prefer to focus on his routes, game plans and contribution to his team’s chance at a win. The second-year receiver says he has not approached his uniform differently than last season; yet he was levied no fines during his 935-yard, five-touchdown rookie campaign.“I don’t know what I need to do, honestly,” Lamb said. “I just know for sure I’m more conscious of it. Whenever an opportunity if I feel a breeze on my stomach or anything post-tackle or anything, I guess I got to look down, pull my jersey down. Stuff like that. It’s weird.“Very weird, considering the next time I get caught with my jersey untucked, I heard I get fined like $50,000 or something. That’s weird.”A subsequently noted untucked uniform would cost Lamb $46,350, per ESPN. Lamb said he has not been notified of any fines drawn during the Cowboys’ last two games against the Vikings and Broncos. He also questioned Vikings safety Harrison Smith sustaining no fine for what Lamb considered Smith choking him at a play’s end.“Considering I got fined, what was that, for waving? I don’t know, it was something crazy then for me to get choked on the sideline,” Lamb said. “The ref said his thumb was stuck in my helmet. That’s crazy. That’s nonsense."I know what it feel like to be choked. I was being choked.”On a lighter note, Lamb laughs at fellow receiver Amari Cooper’s jab about Lamb’s lost tens of thousands of dollars’ worth in fines. Does Lamb not like money, Cooper asked?“I would say that, too, just considering all the money I’ve been giving up at that time, six games, six weeks in a row, just consistently getting fined,” Lamb said. “But I do love money.“For those that don’t know, I do like money.”Follow USA TODAY Sports' Jori Epstein on Twitter />
